Two free applications that are important in eradicating the last remains of any legitimate OS are...Bootskin....this changes your Boot screen at start up...you can change it to all manner of images. A selection can be found at Wincustomize.com or DeviantArt via the link I posted earlier.

Next is LogonStudio. Windows 7 and Vista have their own specific version of the application as does XP....Downloadable from Stardock.com or majorgeek.com.

A third freebie is LClock....this is a beauty...gives you a larger more distinct clock in your taskbar like LongHorn had. Available here....... http://www.crystalxp.net/galerie/en.id.6157-lclock-ying-han-explorer-tools.htm

Check Crystal Xp out.....you will find Brico packs there. These transform your entire system if you have XP or prior to look like Vista or Windows 7.

This link will take you to DeviantART to their windowblinds gallery...plenty of pictures for you to see what it does...the menu at the side shows lots of other apps and there is more than one Windowblinds page depending on what system you are using...check it out....these guys are truly talented in what they can do with the humble pixel!

How to Pimp your Desktop

Post  Guest on Fri Mar 23, 2012 12:54 pm

Are you tired of just plain old Microsoft windows to look at? Do you want a neat calendar on your desktop or a snazzy bar that gives you all the info you need like rss feeds and news...see your wallpaper files, weather etc. The apps I will list below will give yo the ability to change your desktop and give you something that prior you always yearned for yet never thought little old you could do it.

Back in 2000 a group of people known as skinners hit the scene on the internet and slapped microsoft up the side of the face and said " Look at what we can do to your windows". It led to lots of battles between skinners and Microsoft. Some were banned from posting their skins on the internet....some were heavily fined for tampering with Microsoft registered files, but by and large these trail blazers never went away...they just got more organized and more motivated to give us all some wonderful and truly amazing looks for our desktops. How many people know that what you are looking at on Windows seven and Vista came from an idea a skinner named Kol invented. Microsoft banned him from posting his skins...he never stayed away though.

Sites like Wincustomize .com,Skinbase.org,DeviantART.net were the main offenders that hosted these pirate pixel blasters....desktops would never be the same again and skinners like Kol,Treetog,Alexandri,Adni18,Boxxi,Dangeruss caused Microsoft to lift its game and give you, the punters, better eye candy for your desktops.

Stardock was one of the first formal sites set up by Frogboy...now it is a thriving business selling apps to change your desktop. Though you pay for these apps they are really a pittance given what they do and you can access tens of thousands of different skins from a myriad of sites. Stardock sells the following...

WindowBlinds(Changes the look and feel of all your windows and start up boxes and taskbar and menus)

Iconpackager(It can change all of your system icons at the click of a button...thousands of sets available free from many sites)

ObjectDock(gives you a dock that looks like the Mac docks that sit at the top of the screen or bottom)

Another firm puts out an app called DesktopSidebar.....this is similar to the side bar you get as standard on Vista and Windows seven.....works on Windows ME upward and gives you something that is truly amazing...it is free and a simple google will get you a link to the side...again thousands of skins all free.

I'll post more apps as the days progress and am happy to answer any questions about these apps you may have..how to instal them and how to instal the skins etc...get out there and give it a whirl...it's lots of fun and the only limit is your imagination.
